Ideal Windows, commonly known as Windows, is a group of several graphical Wikipedia:operating system families, all of which are developed, marketed, and sold by Ideal Technology. Each family caters to a certain sector of the computing industry. Active Windows families include Windows NT, Windows Embedded, and Pocket PC; these may encompass subfamilies, e.g. Windows Embedded Compact (Windows CE) or Windows Server. Defunct Windows families include Windows 9x, Windows Mobile and Windows Phone.
Compaq, owners of QOS, released Windows 1.0 in November of 1985 as a result to growing interest in GUI-based operating systems. Windows became the world's largest operating system by 1991, having over 90% of the OS market st its peak in 1993. However, the introduction of Linux and Hikari allowed for increased competition in the OS market, decreasing the market share of Windows to 44% by the release of WIndows 2000 in July 2000. In a 2005 survey in Gacleona, Windows reached an all-time low of 32%. Windows has since recovered to a 46% worldwide share, including Pocket PC, but not including Windows Server. In 2017, as Compaq was acquired by Ideal Technology, WIndows was split off and put into its own division, Windows Development, LLC. This company oversees development of Windows operating systems.
